Work on a Cruise? The Many Different Ways You Can Be Injured

We tend to see two different images of cruise ships and cruise vacations.

One of these is the luxury and fun they can provide. Couples canoodling by the railing of a ship. Families going on adventures together.

The other image is one of vacations gone wrong. Shipwrecks. Stolen belongings. The infamous “poop cruise.”

There’s a third image most people never consider though: workplace.

Cruise ships employ hundreds of people, and just like passengers, they can get injured, too.

In one three-year study of 630 cruise ship workers, these findings were reported:

361 total injuries were reported. Men experienced 77 percent of those injuries, and women experienced 23 percent. Thirty percent of those injuries resulted in loss of work for more than one day. The hotel department workers comprised 79 percent of the total injuries. Dancers were at higher risk of serious injuries than members

Still Looking for a Last-Minute Holiday Cruise?

The holiday season is touted as the most wonderful time of year, but is it really wonderful to spend all day cooking a holiday meal so your entire family can cram around the dining room table? Or to watch your kids race from gift to gift and rip off the wrapping paper, more interested in what’s next than the presents themselves?

Instead of having a traditional holiday this year, you should consider a holiday cruise where everything is provided for you and your family and all you have to do is just sit back, relax, and enjoy the endless waterfront view.

If you’d like to get out of town this December, there are plenty of perfect, last-minute cruise options that are still available – all you have to decide is what kind of holiday vacation you want to have!

The Anxiety of Traveling: Get Over Cruise Fears and Enjoy Yourself

Many of us dream of getting away and relaxing on a cruise. Taking in the ocean views during the day, and watching as the sky turns into a sea of stars at night.

Yet travel fears may get in the way of pursuing your dream of a cruise. With constant updates of natural disasters, terrorism, and cyberattacks, it’s easy to feel like the world is unsafe, and therefore travel itself is perceived to be unsafe.

However, travel allows people to escape their routines and refresh their bodies and spirits, so the appeal is still universal. According to a recent Travel Market report, Priceline’s CEO believes that travel is such a healing salve, people will still book trips despite negative headlines.

Even with recent devastation in the Caribbean and Gulf Coast, cruise companies are anticipating good travel numbers in the upcoming months. The chairman and

After Devastating Hurricanes in the Caribbean, Is Your Port Still Open?

A cruise vacation is usually a time for relaxation, but with hurricane season in full swing, it’s understandable if you’re feeling a bit anxious and stressed instead.

Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc on many of the islands of the Caribbean – popular cruise destinations for a number of different cruise lines – which also means a number of cruise ports were affected.

If you have a Caribbean cruise planned in the near future, your cruise might have to be rerouted and your itinerary might have to be changed depending on the damage caused by the hurricanes. If you are worried, the best thing to do is to reach out to your cruise line for specific changes. However, here’s what we know so far about the Caribbean ports.

You Can Get Up to $900 in Class Action Lawsuit against Cruise SPAM

Telemarketers are the bane of many people’s existence.

They call at inopportune times, sometimes multiple times in a week – or even a day. They don’t leave voicemail messages. They show up as “unknown” callers so you don’t actually know who’s calling. Worst of all, no matter what you do – even if you join the National Do Not Call Registry – their calls just don’t seem to stop.

However, what if you found out that one of these telemarketing calls could get you up to $300 per call or up to $900 per phone line? Would you feel differently about telemarketers then?

Probably not, but it’s still nice to know that you might get something out of your frustration. How does it work?

Right now, there is a class action lawsuit involving three cruise lines (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian) and Resort Marketing

Hurt By a Cruise Doctor’s Negligence? You’re Not Alone

When you’re on a cruise, you probably don’t anticipate suffering an injury or illness that requires medical care. Yet when you need to see a doctor while cruising, you expect the same standard of care that you receive at home. If you experience medical negligence under the care of a cruise ship’s doctor, legal protection may be available to you.

In one court case, an elderly passenger fell and hit his head while trying to board the cruise ship when it was in port. The passenger was sent to the ship’s onboard medical facility for treatment. While he stayed in the facility, the passenger allegedly received such negligent treatment that he died a week later. A family member filed suit to hold the cruise line accountable for medical negligence.

What kinds of negligence actions can occur when you seek medical help on a cruise?
